When Concert Properties was founded in 1989, the company set out with an ambitious goal: to transform underutilized city-owned land into vibrant and diverse communities that reflect our people-first ethos. The City of Vancouver aimed to reduce industrial presence in residential areas, while the Greater Vancouver Regional District sought to decrease vehicle use through the creation of new transit-oriented developments. After years of extensive planning and community consultation, 28 acres of industrial warehouse land were rezoned in October 1993. This project realized the company’s vision for Collingwood Village, one of the first transit-oriented, master-planned communities in the city.
Today, Collingwood Village is a thriving neighbourhood located in East Vancouver that over 5,000 residents proudly call home, reflecting the power of thoughtful urban planning and community collaboration. Anchored by the Joyce–Collingwood SkyTrain Station, it offers residents convenient access to sustainable transit and a wide range of amenities that foster connection.
The community includes 2,700 rental and condominium homes across 16 buildings. With a mix of affordable housing options, and 20% of the homes designed for families with children, Collingwood Village caters to a diverse range of residents.
Prior to development, Concert Properties and the City collaborated closely with community members to identify their priorities, resulting in significant improvements throughout the area. As planned, the neighbourhood now features a grocery store, a drug store, the Evergreen Community Health Centre, small-scale retail, an elementary school built on land donated by Concert Properties and Collingwood Neighbourhood House.
The Collingwood Neighbourhood House, created through a public-private partnership involving Concert Properties, the City and the Collingwood Neighbourhood House Society, which operates the facility, is the heart of the village. This award-winning 25,000 sq. ft. community centre offers a variety of social and recreational programs and services for all ages, including a gymnasium and daycare. Concert Properties contributed a $2 million endowment to support ongoing operations, leading the Association of Neighbourhood Houses of Greater Vancouver to create a new Corporate Category for their annual Good Neighbour Awards to recognize Concert Properties. "When we have asked for help, assistance or participation from Concert Properties, they have always been there, like a trusted neighbour!” stated Collingwood Neighbourhood House in their nomination.
Collingwood Village also boasts three parks over seven acres that include tennis and basketball courts, children’s play areas and pathways that weave throughout the community. These spaces have become focal points for community interaction and engagement, reinforcing Collingwood Village’s identity as a place to live, work and play.
Notably, the community is also home to Vancouver's first-ever community crime prevention office, The Collingwood Community Policing Centre. Housed in retail space built and donated by Concert Properties, this centre addresses local crime and safety concerns, underscoring our commitment to creating secure neighbourhoods.
While the vision for Collingwood Village was conceived over 30 years ago, Concert Properties continues to innovate to foster a sense of community. In February 2024, Concert Properties launched an equipment lending library called The Thingery, allowing residents to borrow new and gently used equipment through an online booking system. Additionally, Concert Properties hosts regular tenant appreciation events featuring games, food, drinks and activities for children. Kaylee Chun, Resident Services Agent at Collingwood Village, says, "These events are a great opportunity to get our tenants together, keep them happy, and make them feel special!"
